Emergency Giving for the Middle East

Support the victims together with your employees

The violence in the Middle East has resulted in a significant humanitarian crisis, with millions of people in Lebanon, Gaza, the West Bank, Israel, and Syria urgently in need of assistance. In response to this dire situation, Giro555 has been launched to facilitate support for the victims.

On Wednesday, October 16, NPO, RTL, and Talpa will host a nationwide action day aimed at raising funds for those affected in the Middle East.

Companies can participate through Emergency Giving for the Middle East. This initiative allows employers to join forces with their employees in supporting those impacted by the crisis. Employees can make donations to Giro555 or directly to one of the charities providing emergency assistance in the region. Employers also have the option to contribute or match employee donations. Together, we can make a meaningful difference.

How does it work?

  • As an employer, you will receive communication materials for Emergency Giving, along with a special donation link tailored for your employees.

  • Employees, both within the Netherlands and abroad, can then make a one-time direct donation to Giro555 and to charities providing emergency assistance in the region.

  • Employers have the option to double their employees’ donations or contribute an additional amount. Organizations can also set a maximum limit for this contribution.

  • The Social Handshake manages all administrative tasks. After the campaign, employers will receive a payment request for the doubling of the donations, along with an impact overview that can be shared internally.

Which charities can I support through Emergency Giving?

In addition to Giro555, employees can support other involved charities, including:

  • Doctors Without Borders - Provides medical assistance to people in Lebanon and Gaza, including emergency surgeries, trauma care, and psychosocial support.

  • Bellingcat - Investigates human rights violations and war crimes in the Middle East through open-source investigative journalism.

  • Free Press Unlimited - Advocates for a free and independent press, ensuring that people have access to reliable information in conflict areas.

  • Movement on the Ground - Helps refugees in Lebanon by providing shelter, basic necessities, and sustainable assistance.

More Information

Aid organizations have been active in Gaza and Israel for over a year. However, due to closed borders and the dangerous situation for aid workers, it has been challenging to provide large-scale assistance in Gaza. Despite these obstacles, organizations have made significant progress by strategically placing warehouses and opening new distribution routes, allowing them to reach more and more people in need.

As the violence spreads to neighboring countries like Lebanon and Syria, the demand for assistance has also increased dramatically, with the number of people in need rising rapidly. Aid organizations are closely monitoring the developments and continuously adjusting their strategies to provide help where it is possible and necessary. Their focus remains on delivering essential support across all affected areas.

While the crises in these regions vary in nature, they share a common thread: there are victims everywhere. Millions of individuals, including countless children, are suffering. These are people who did not choose this fate; they have left their homes, lost loved ones, and urgently need help to survive, regardless of their origins.

As long as the conflict continues, casualties will keep rising. A true end to this humanitarian crisis will only be possible when the violence ceases. In the meantime, we can support those who are currently in the midst of this turmoil and need our assistance. This is why The Social Handshake has established its neutral giving platform, Emergency Giving.
