Syrian refugees in Türkiye have become even more vulnerable as a result of this disaster. VluchtelingenWerk Nederland stands up for their rights and calls for this large group not to be forgotten in the coordinated aid programs for the victims. VluchtelingenWerk also helps Syrian refugees through its local partner organization in obtaining new documents that were lost during the quake. That is important because, without these documents, refugees are stateless. If the police check them for papers and they cannot show them, they are threatened with deportation to unsafe Syria. Furthermore, VluchtelingenWerk offers a listening ear to Syrian refugees in the Netherlands who are uncertain about the fate of family members left behind in the disaster area and refers them to the right organizations.
